Fact About Chef Dammy To Break Hilda Baci 100 Hours Cookathon Guinness World Record

Chef Dami has thrown her hat in the ring. She wants to own the world record in cookathon too. But to many Nigerians, it seems she has broken an unwritten code. Whatever that code was, it was not a healthy one.
An Ekiti-based chef, Adedamilola Adeparusi, known as Chef Dammy, supported by Spirit Global Mission Church caused a social media frenzy over the weekend for attempting to set a new world record by cooking for 120 hours.

When Hilda Baci made her own attempt, she became a rallying point for all and sundry. Politicians, church people, artists and ordinary citizens with access to data in Nigeria were rooting for her.

The impression created was that Nigerians would always support their own. But I intentionally reserved my comments at the time because I knew such impression was untrue. There were underlying confounding factors.

In Chef Hilda Baci, we saw a show and display of what many among us love to see. We saw pomp and peagantry. Chef Dami has none of those to display. The mockery of her kitchen, physical appearances and her food attest to this.

Dami probably has no access to one-fiftth of Baci's resources and support. She probably has no real sponsor. But she dared to throw her hat in the ring. She is even doing this in Ilupeju-Ekiti, not in Lagos or Abuja. Ilupeju-Ekiti is a low-brow, low-budget part of Nigeria.

However,  instead of feeling intimidated, Dami was inspired to venture. This is the good part. She didn't wait to have all the flashy things that her forerunner had or that were expected of her by an unfair and a judgemental public to enter the challenge.

Friends, instead of fighting Dami, let's learn from her. Many of us know we have a gift, a skill or an endowment but we have refused to show up because we feel unworthy and scared to face the scathing criticism of an antagonistic public. Some among us are downright intimidated by the successes of those ahead of us in the already crowded market. It is time to be inspired like Dami and put your best foot forward, even if It is shaking.

For some of us who might think Dami is trying to take the shine off Baci by beating her yet-to-be-recognised record, please take a deep breath. There's no certificate of recognition that Guinness world records can give Baci that will rival the recognition she has gained for herself already. Are you aware that there are a number of world record holders in Nigeria who are nearly unknown?

What is more, if you happen to be a trail blazer in an area of life, be glad that you are an inspiration to others. If you start a venture before others start to see the light, it means you are a light bearer who is showing the way. Rejoice and don't feel threatened. Encourage them. Give them wings to fly. Give them oxygen. Don't suffocate them.

When all is said and done, whether chef Dami breaks this record or not, she would have registered herself as someone who showed up with her talent at some point. Expect her profile to rise among those who supply food at  "owambe" parties in Ekiti and beyond. She is showcasing her craft and there are no time restrictions to this.

Remember, a man who hides his talent is like one who is winking in the dark. He's the only one who knows he's winking. Dami has come forward. Please let her be!

Chef Dami's social media handler is a bad marketer. I think they are giving her a negative PR by engaging in unsound comparisons.

Social Media Response And Replies From The Public

Inem; It's okay that Damilola shows up to break record, after all records are meant to be broken. However, being that GWR is yet to certify that Hilda has broken Lata Tondon's record and set a new record, two questions beg for answers.
1.) Has Hilda Baci set a record that is to be broken?
2.) Is it possible to break a non existent record?

Sebire; This is an interesting perspective, but I have concerns regarding the timing and potential consequences, as outlined in this write-up.

It's important to consider that misinterpretations and inaccurate assertions can arise when someone takes a leap of faith without proper understanding or preparation.

Instead, could she take the time to gather herself, comprehend the process, and potentially seek more information from the person who inspired her? Granted, it may not be feasible to reach out to Baci, but what about waiting to better equip herself for the attempt, even with limited resources? We know that Baci spent four years preparing for her own attempt, which could serve as a valuable lesson.

I'm not suggesting a four-year wait, but perhaps a few months could provide the opportunity for better readiness.

Alternatively, waiting too long may cause the initial excitement to fade, so is now the best time for her to seize the inspiration and take her shot?
