Electronic Communication Development In The World

In this article, we shall learn what electronic communication means. We shall read about the electronic communication equipment which we use and how we use them. What is communication.
Electronic communication is communication which is aided by electronic.

Electronic is a branch of science and engineering which is closely related to electricity. Like electricity, electronics uses electric current is used in the form of energy to do many things e.g to produce light (a) in the house (b) in the torch lamp and (c) in the car it also uses electric to produce heat (a) in the electric iron and (b) in the electric cooker.

Electricity uses electric current to do some other work like
1, cooling the house with (a) a Fan (b) an air conditioner.
2, milking cows, and 3, grinding pepper.

But in electronics, the electric current is used in the form of pulses or signals. These signals may become sounds as they may use numbers as in adding machines and watches.
They may become pictures as in the television set or x-ray photographs.

They may work with codes and signals as in the case of telegram. cables and the telex.

All these electronic device help us in communication by carrying messages and information at a very fast rate and sometime over wide areas.

Communication which is aided by electronic device is known as telecommunication.

Telephone service have been set up in all important towns in the country. All state Capitals have an automatic telephone exchange. When you travel along any major road in Nigeria, you will see tall masts carrying automatic telephone equipment.

You can usually dial any number in any major town in Nigeria from any telephone exchange.

Most post office can send and receive telegrams in the country. There are also telex services in most large cities and towns.

To be able to send telephone messages to other countries, we need satellite earth stations. These stations help us to receive telephone message from satellites.

We now have a satellite earth stations such as the one in lanlate in the ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo state. This station is helped by the repeater stations at Alabata in the Egba Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, at Ikorodu, and at Ogidi.

There are now many radio and television broadcasting stations in Nigeria. Radio and television sets help to receive messages from the rodio and television stations.

Although, we have many post offices with telephone, telegraph and telex services, communication is still very slow, sometimes these services break down. Some telephones may not work for days, weeks, or even months.
Telegrams take weeks to reach people to whom they are sent.

There are so many reasons for these bad situations. One of them is that the telephone lines sometimes get damaged by flood and sometimes by people laying water pipe. Some telephone lines may be damaged by storms or strong winds or by trees falling across the road. The repairs to damaged lines take a long time because some workers are lazy and unwilling to work for the money they earn.

Radio and television stations may go off the air during broadcasting because of power failure. As you have learnt electronic devices need electric current to work. When the electricity is cut off, the electronic equipment stops work. Electricity supply is not regular in the country. All telecommunications devices need steady electricity to work well.

Most of the electronic devices used in this country are made overseas. Spare parts for maintaining them come from overseas. Sometimes we cannot get the spare parts. This causes delay in making them work.

In order that our telephone, telegraph and broadcasting services may work smoothly, people should know more about them.

We should manufacture spare parts in this country. People who work in public office should be loyal.
